Is Marriage Still A Goal?
Tuesday Dec 08, 2020
Tuesday Dec 08, 2020
Is marriage still seen as an essential step in a successful life? According to the Pew Research Center only about half of Americans over age 18 are married. This is down from 72% then we had 40 years ago, while divorce rates have been significantly raising especially among older Americans.
So, is Marriage still a goal? Why are men and women shying away from commitment? Is it a natural fear of rejection or being controlled? Could we see it as a positive trend? What if a delay in marriage allows young people to avoid mistakes, first learn about themselves before being responsible for another person’s life? Could it be that marriage in its traditional way is no longer the answer to the human desire for connection and belonging? Or is it still a social contract?
We are not trying to find the right answers. We are just talking it over in our Big Ole Bed and we have perfect guests, who happened to be marriage supporters... Now let's pull back the sheets...

Bringing Someone Home For The Holidays...
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
While we are fast approaching the holiday season, it comes with the pressure of meeting with the family and socializing. Imagine on top of that you are planning to invite your significant other to the family gathering for the first time? Have you discussed it with your beau? What if your celebration-styles don’t match? What if your partner doesn’t like holidays or doesn't like your family? Do you need to make a choice and spend a holiday season with your partner or your family? Ultimately, holidays are often the test for relationships — it's actually the most common time of the year for couples break-up.
We are not subject matter experts, but one of our special guests definitely is: Naemmy Saldivar, LCSW and Trauma Therapist is ready to share her experience. Now let's pull back the sheets...

Is it ok to be courting more than one person?
Tuesday Nov 17, 2020
Tuesday Nov 17, 2020
Before going deep into the topic let's clarify the semantics: courting vs dating. What comes first? What term has a more serious connotation and consequences? Is it fair to your potential and yourself to be committed to monogamy from the first date? Or is dating a numbers game? At what stage of 'courting'/'dating' do two or people need to communicate their expectations and set the boundaries? Why is this conversation difficult for some? How do different attachment styles affect your dating behavior?
We are not subject matter experts, but one of our special guests definitely is. Rhea Parks, Mind, Body, & Spirit MFT - a Marriage & Family Therapist is in the building. Now let's pull back the sheets...

Can We Date Through Political Differences?
Tuesday Nov 10, 2020
Tuesday Nov 10, 2020
What to do if you are dating someone who is on the opposite side of the political, cultural and/or religious spectrum? Would you date someone who didn’t share your political beliefs and voted for the "other guy"? It might have been harder to do during the current nontraditional presidency, but can we still listen to each other and cherish our shared values? Following famous JFK words: "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" - can two people live, love and serve their community together despite their different party affiliation? Can you talk it over and continue to cultivate and nurture the relationship? Does a deep-dive conversation always help?
Well... 50 min definitely is not enough for such a hot topic but we are not trying to find the right answers. We are just talking it over in our Big Ole Bed and we have amazing guests for a very frank conversation. Now let's pull back the sheets...
